Description: The Maine Medical Center (MMC) Phase I Coulombe Family Tower project is an integral foundation of the five-year expansion process on their Portland campus. It added two stories and 64 oncology rooms to the existing hospital. In addition, a new cantilevered double helipad was relocated and constructed above these new floors which improved access for the trauma center and emergency department. Three additional levels were also added to the visitor parking garage for an added 225 parking spaces. All of this construction was performed around the existing, fully operational MMC facility.
E.S. Boulos (ESB) provided electrical construction services for the facility as a member of Turner Construction’s project team. ESB’s scope included providing the facility’s shell and core electrical construction, as well as electrical fit-out, advanced lighting and lighting control, tel-data/networking, fire alarm, security, nurse call, and patient locator systems. Building Information Modeling (BIM), LEAN Construction, and Multi-Trade Prefabrication construction methods were employed throughout project planning, design, and construction phases.
This state-of-the-art East Tower addition completes Phase I of MMC’s ambitious $512M multi-phased improvement plan. The project opened to new patients in December 2019 as scheduled.
